Spring Term 2026
Happy new year!
Our Christian Values
During the Spring term, our Christian values are humility followed by forgiveness and compassion in the second half of the term.
In Falcons, we all have different strengths and characteristics, and we are going to use them to help support and guide each other through our year in school. We will be there for each other and help encourage each other to make the right decisions, along with celebrating for our individual wins. Everyone will know and feel that there will always be a helping hand, words of advice or just a friendly smile when needed.
“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.” – Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
“Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing”- Thessalonians 5:11
English
In our first half term we will be using the text 'Arthur and the Golden Rope’ by Joe Todd-Stanton to develop our writing skills. We will work on descriptive setting pieces, character descriptions, and poetry. We will end the half term, with an independent piece based on the children creating their own myth including their own hero and villain or monster.

In our second half term, we will be using the text ‘The Darkest Dark’ by Chris Hadfield to develop our writing skills. We will work on writing a short story, setting description, character description, whilst developing use of new and varied punctuation. Our final independent piece will be based on writing a biography of Chris Hadfield.

Spelling
We will continue to use Pathways to Spell as part of our English lessons to develop spelling strategies and learn spelling rules, as well as the Y5/6 common exception words.
Maths
We are continuing to use and follow White Rose Maths. During the Spring term, year 5 will focus on fractions, decimals, percentages, decimals and perimeter and area. Year 6 will focus on fractions, ratio, algebra, fractions, decimals, percentages, area, perimeter, and volume.
As mathematicians, the children will learn through concrete experiences moving onto pictorial and abstract methods as their confidence builds. They will also be expected to use their learning to reason about maths and solve problems.
Science
For this term we are focusing on animals including humans, including the circulatory system. As scientists, we aim to develop our knowledge and understanding, scientific skills and measuring and recording abilities.
History and Geography
As historians, our main question is ‘What are the countries that make up Europe?’
Throughout our work we will look at what is the same and what is different. We will
focus on locating countries using maps, concentrating on their environmental regions, key physical and human characteristics, and looking into major cities.
RE
For RE we will continue to use the Questful RE planning.
For the first half term we will be focusing on the big question of ‘Why do Christians believe Jesus was a great teacher?’.
During the second half term we will focus on ‘Who was Jesus?’.
Art
As artists, we will be focusing on artwork from around Europe, to link with our geography work.
DT
As designers, we will be focusing on cooking. We will learn new skills whilst ending with some delicious food.
PHSE
For the first half term, we are going to be focusing on Global diversity and discrimination
For the second half term, we are going to be focusing on British Values.
We will also have focused time on our British Values: democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance for those with different faiths and beliefs as well as the nine protected characteristics.
Music
As musicians, we will be using Charanga to explore musical styles and different sounds.
MFL
As linguists, we will continue to have Madame Carter on Tuesday morning to deliver our French lessons.
