ELSA

ELSA Programme

ELSA is a support programme delivered in schools by staff trained with Educational Psychologists.

ELSA Stands for:

Emotional Literacy Support Assistant

ELSA is a training course aimed at teaching assistants in schools. Examples of things covered on the course are Social skills, emotions, bereavement, social stories and therapeutic stories, anger management, self-esteem, counselling skills such as solution focused and friendship.

The emotional wellbeing of our pupils is of paramount importance.

Successful learning and rapid, sustained progress can only happen securely when emotional and mental health is secure and stable.

Our approach of personalising learning is a strength of the school academically as well as emotionally.

Mrs June Miller is our school's Emotional Literacy Champion.

She has completed CBT for children and implemented the program with some of our vulnerable pupils.

School have now supported Mrs Miller's professional development and invested significantly in the ELSA project.

Kingsley St John's are committed to our partnership work with the Educational Psychologist Service to ensure high quality emotional learning opportunities are available in support of our school curriculum.
